Introduction

The resolving of the growing shortage of water requires large scale implementation of water effective agricultural practices in India. The availability of water or rather its non-availability is increasingly becoming the decision maker in what to grow, and how to grow. Several innovations and strategies are being implemented in order to save water in agriculture, and make water resources more sustainable. These include adopting the system of rice intensification, drip irrigation and harvesting rainwater. Despite the gradual increase in the implementation of these innovations, erratic rainfall and depleting ground water levels influence agricultural growth, especially its farms and rich ethnic agro-diversity.
