Software
tools
Here are some software
tools that Portal users would be interested in:
1.) Software tool for
groundwater budgeting
R.V.
Rama Mohan of Center for World Solidarity is the author of freeware
(an Excel spreadsheet) to calculate the groundwater extraction vs.
recharge in a region. The software is available to the public and is
soliciting feedback. Comments may be sent to rvrm2@yahoo.com and we
would also be interested in hearing the same at portal@arghyam.org Click
here
The Portal also has a
demonstration
package for learning how to do a
Water
Balance. Read More
2.) Flood Warning
website

The NASA Tropical
Rainfall Measurement Mission website gives a realtime prediction of
potential flood areas for the next 24 hours. We would be interested
to know if such a flood prediction tool would be useful
for them. It should be possible to set up a flood warning system
where subscribers from can be send an SMS warning of potential flood
areas from this map. Read

3.) Taluka-level GIS
Database on
Watershed Development
Programmes in Karnataka, Maharashtra, and Madhya
Pradesh:
Forum for Watershed
Research and Policy Dialogue (FORWARD) has developed a database of
the spread and expenditure on watershed development programmes in
these three states. The data is available in GIS format on a CD and
can be obtained free of cost. Details are at http://forward.org.in/giscd.htm
4.) Meteorological
Data tool on India Water Portal:

The Portal contains
data on 11 climate parameters for all areas of the country on a
half-degree latitude and longitude grid. We are in the process of
improving the tool to allow searching by district boundaries too and
to make it possible to search without the bandwidth-intensive GIS
application. Comments are welcome at portal@arghyam.org http://www.indiawaterportal.org/data/metdata
