The Sugarcane Breeding Institute (of the Indian Council of Agricultural Research), Coimbatore is organizing a "Schedule irrigation, Save water" campaign in Dharmapuri district. The event is being organized under 'Farmers' Participatory Action Research Programme (FPARP)'.
During the campaign, sugarcane growers will be sensitized on the benefits of scheduling their irrigations. Demonstrations of simple devices such as Soil Moisture Indicator & Tensiometer, used for scheduling irrigations, are to be conducted. Water samples from the sugarcane growers are to be tested, participatory discussions on implementing FPARP are to be held, besides distribution of inputs and extension material. This will be followed by a ‘farmer-scientist-cane development personnel question-answer session’.
