Ministry of Urban Development has approved 467 projects with total cost of Rs.50,340 crores under Urban Infrastructure Governance (UIG), Sub-Mission –I of Jawaharlal Nehru National Urban Renewal Mission (JNNURM) so far. Additional Central Assistance (ACA) of Rs.8933 crores have been released against the Central share of Rs.23,856 crores committed (76% of 7-year allocation for 2005-12). All States /Union Territories except Goa & all mission cities except Panaji, Jamshedpur, Tirupathi, Porbander have been covered under UIG.
Under the mission, 81% of the total cost of projects accounted for by the priority sectors of water supply, sewerage, storm water drainage and solid waste management aiming at integrated development of infrastructural services in the cities covered under the mission . 40 projects reported by states have been physically completed so far. Financial support for setting up of Programme Management Units (PMUs) in 19 States/UTs has been approved. Ministry has also approved financial Support for setting up of 43 Project Implementation Units (PIUs) at the Cities/ULBs levels to monitor UIG schemes. A framework for Independent Reviewing and Monitoring Authority (IRMA) established and IRMA proposals for 13 States/UTs have been approved.
Under the Urban Infrastructure Development Scheme for Small and medium Towns (UIDSSMT), 752 projects with total cost of Rs.12,820 crores have been approved by the Ministry. The Scheme aims at improvement of Urban Infrastructure in towns and cities (other than the 65 Mission cities indentified under JNNURM) in a planned manner. The Scheme covers all cities/towns as per 2001 census, except the mission cities covered under JNNURM. Ministry has released ACA of Rs.5858 crores against the Central share of Rs.10,336 crores committed (91% of 7-year allocation for 2005-12). 29 States/UTs & 635 towns have been covered under UIDSSMT so far. Under the scheme 92% of the ACA releases accounted for by the priority sectors of water supply, sewerage, storm water drainage and solid waste management. 80 projects have been physically completed till date.
