Water gods from world's cultural history

Quest and Questy:
Let's visit water gods from stories around the world. Let's ask why these peoples and cultures described water bodies as awe inspiring personalities.
Stories of power, stories of fantasy and stories of myth. And of the grand role of water within cultures

Smart Aleck: Oh lets start from home!
The strong Varuna, a deva of water and the suave Indra, the lord of rain…
There's a lot more from world over, like Proteus an Egyptian Sea God who was a bit vain!
And the lovely Greek Poseidon, a water God with many more names!!

Oh wait- a Roman connection, Neptune the sea god who was brother to Jupiter and Mercury

Questy and Quest: Aren't any of them a lady?

Smart Aleck:
Sure there were! They were called Goddesses, silly!
Like South-asia's mythic rivers, Ganga and Saraswati;
Travel right across to ancient Aztec to find goddess Chalchiuhtlicue
She ruled running water like rivers and springs,
Much like what the Indian river goddesses governed, you see!

The British goddess Latis was once a Goddess of the lakes,
She's now the Goddess of water, and beer! Oh Britain what do we say?!!
[Laughter]

Our African connection is Nun, goddess of water and chaos- a bit of awe and fear
Then there's the Sumerian Nammu - Goddess of the Sea and mother to all swimmers on earth here

Quest: Oh please, Can I have some Aphrodite?
Sudden Pause

Smart Aleck: That's the goddess of love silly!

Quest: Gaia, the spirit of the earth needs this love, really!!
