This book talks about the practise of soil and water conservation adopted by Dr. Mallanna in Bagalkote. Bagalkote is a district in northern Karnataka, which is known for scanty rainfall.

Around a decade ago, the region did not get rainfall for three consecutive years. Many farmers in the region suffered immensly beacuse of this. But farmers in Hunagunda taluk in the district did not have to face such a situation. This was because of the soil and water conservation technique that they had adopted. This ensured that the families grew enough food to sustain themselves during such testing periods.
