Yatra

Between Rishikesh and Badrinath

Background

On one side the PM says that "Ganga is the soul of India" and on the other, work on hydro projects continuously go on in the Himalayan basin of Ganga.

Work on Srinagar dam (330 Mw) on the Alaknanda as well as on Singoli-Bhatwadi (99Mw), Vishnugad-Peepalkoti (444 Mw) etc. continuously go on as it was before. It is also heard that for the completion of Srinagar dam, on the May 13th, 2013 Dhari Devi peeth at Srinagar would be displaced.

Our voice against such a cruel commercial behavior managed to focus attention on the river, but it is unfortunate that the situation is now moving towards a critical point.

Objective

  • To see the situation of Ganga, under construction and existing hydro projects and impacts of hydro power projects on Ganga and its surrounding areas.
  • Brainstorming conclusive discussion on the conditions and results.
  • Analysis of our responsibility and possible activities
  • Finalize future action plan
