Golap river restoration project in Ratnagiri executed by Gogate Joglekar College, Ratnagiri and Shree Charitable Trust, Mumbai

As part of an NSS Camp restoration work of the Golap River in Ratnagiri, was executed between 26th December, 2010 to 2nd January, 2011.

The total length of the river is about 8 to 10 kms, of which a 2.5 km stretch was cleaned.

The first photo shows the position of the river, prior to project execution. This had been the position of the river for nearly 25 years, post the rainy season, that is between January to June every year.

The second photo shows the college students at work. About 750 college students participated not only from Maharashtra but also from Gujarat, Karnataka and Goa under the banner of NSS.

The third photo shows the increased water level to 5-6 feet within 48 hours of cleaning some parts of the river. Vice Chancellor, University of Mumbai Mr. Rajan Welukar along with his university colleagues, and Gogate Joglekar College Principal Dr. Subhash Dev and Shri Gogate of Shree Charitable Trust, visit the work site.
