“We want to give back this planet to our children in a condition better than the one in which we borrowed it from them.”
N.R. Narayana Murthy, Chairman of the Board and Chief Mentor, Infosys Limited
Infosys has shown its dedication towards the environment by implementing an Environmental Management System called the Ozone Initiative (which conforms to the EMS Standard ISO 14001:2004). The initiative is subject to third party surveillance audits. Under the initiative, the organization complies completely with all legal requirements and meets or exceeds these expectations. For example, internal environmental audits are being conducted throughout the year to ensure the targets are executed.
Infosys has an Environment, Health and Safety Policy which states the following:
“Infosys as a corporate citizen is committed to demonstrating a high standard of environmental protection, sharing of best practices and provision of a safe and healthy workplace. To achieve this, we shall work toward:
We shall work with various stakeholders toward continual improvement of our Environmental Management System.
We shall meet mandated safety requirements as a minimum and strive to go beyond regulatory limitations to become a leader in environment, health and safety management.”

Water Management at Infosys
An integrated water management system optimizes consumption and recycles water in state-of-the-art treatment plants. Reservoirs, wells and roof-top basins across our Indian DCs replenish ground water and harvest rain water.
This is a fine example of a corporate taking steps to conserve water and spread awareness among its employees on sustainable water management. One can only hope that this will pave the way for others to follow suit.
